Hamirpur boy tops UPSEE
LUCKNOW: Akash Deep, a native of Hamirpur, topped the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam ( UPSEE). Though Akash is happy with the results, he intends to join one of the IITs and pursue computer science engineering. Having secured 280 marks in JEE mains, he is now preparing hard for JEE Advanced. He also took the entrance exam for BITS Pilani. "My son will take admission into a college through SEE only when he is not able to make into any of the IITs and NIITs," said RP Singh, Akash's father, a teacher at Saraswati Vidya Inter College, Hamirpur, from where Akash has done his schooling.
Securing second position in SEE, Raghav Agarwal, too, is keen on joining IITs or BITS. "Raghav's first choice is IITs. Other than this, he is eyeing admission in BITS,'' said VK Agarwal, raghav's father. A resident of Bijnor, Raghav said did his schooling from a government school.
Abhiram Mishra from Lucknow took the third slot in SEE. Like other toppers, Abhiram too is looking for admission in IITs. Securing 257 marks in JEE Mains, Abhiram, a student of HAL Academy, said, "IITs are best in terms of quality of teachers and infrastructure. Therefore, I will first try my luck there and then look at engineering colleges in UP.'' Abhiram aspires to be an electronic communication engineer.
Son of a farmer in Basti, Aayush Ojha has done his schooling from Lucknow. He acquired ninth position in SEE. "My aim is to get into either IITs or NIITs. As colleges in UP offer less facilities, those colleges would be my last preference," said Aayush who wants to specialize in either electrical or mechanical. He scored 250 marks in JEE mains and 335 in BITSAT. Bhavya Bandaru topped the SEE for BTEch in the girls category.
In MBA, Ashish Awasthi emerged as the topper. Working as a lecturer in an engineering college, Ashish wants to join a government college in UP for MBA. He completed his BTech from a colleges affiliated to UPTU in 2007.
In the girls category, Suhanee Agarwal scored highest in MBA. She now plans to take admission in a government college of UP. Suhanee has already completed BTech from an affiliated college of UPTU. Though I will take admission in a college here, I will to appear for CAT next year. Studying in IIMs is my dream,'' she said.
A total of 1,58,736 candidates appeared in SEE for admissions to BTech. Of this, 1,24,015 qualified the exam. There are total of 1,41,537 seats in various engineering institutions across the state.
In MBA, only 10,767 candidates appeared for the exam, of which, 8,750 were declared pass. The university offers a total of 40,680 seats in various management institutions. The SEE for engineering was conducted on April 21 while that for MBA, MCA was held on April 20 and 27.
According to university vice-chancellor RK Khandal, the academic session will begin from August 1. "We will finish the counseling process and all admissions latest by July 31 so that we are able to retain the students in our colleges.''
