JAIPUR: The Kota coaching industry has retained its might and strength in the Joint Entrance Exam (Mains) held this year. The data compiled by different coaching institutes suggest that Kota city has a lion's share in the number of successful candidates. The result was announced on May 7.
Rough estimate says that 25,000 students from Kota are among the top 1.5 lakh students who will appear in finals -- JEE (Advanced-2013) on June 2. Figures suggest that a total of 13.75 lakh students appeared in the JEE (Main) exam held in April 7 in the country. Out of it, nearly 45,000 appeared from Kota and constituted about 16% success ratio against 3.2% participation in the exam. It roughly means that 55% student in Kota was selected for the second and final round.
Vice-president (operations and business development) of Resonance Manoj Sharma calculated that a total of 9,055 students from the institute made it to the next level (JEE-Advanced). Out of these students, 6,383 belonged to regular classroom coaching while 2,672 students were associated with Distance Learning Programme ( DLP).
Palak Jain, a regular student from Udaipur centre of the institute scored 340 marks out of 360 and is among the highest scorers. She wanted to make a career in computer engineering.
Director of Allen Career Institute, Brijesh Maheshwari, said 4,203 students from the institute cleared the exam. Among the successful, 3,888 students availed their coaching through regular classes. "Seventeen students have scored more than 300 marks out of 360. I have no doubt that these performers will secure seats in top IITs," said Maheshwari, who claims to be running the world's biggest coaching institute with a student strength of 45,000.
P K Bansal, CEO of the Bansal Classes said that 3,419 students of Bansal Classes cleared the exam. The institute's 50 students scored 300 or more marks at this stage, he said. Director ofVibrant Academy, Narendra Awasthi, said that 2,833 students from regular classroom coaching succeeded in JEE (Mains) level while 1,256 students cleared it through distance learning. Nitin Vijay, Motion IIT-JEE director said 1,456 students got into the next level. Pramod Maheshwari, CEO of Career Point, said that 3,623 students cleared the exam while Dr B V Rao, director of Rao's IIT Academy, said his institute provided coaching to 652 successful students, out of which 219 were from Kota.
