MANGALORE: They are bright and aspiring for higher and challenging forums to hone their life's skills, and have concern for their ilk. Exemplifying this are Sahan S Alva, and Medha Narayan Rao, students of Expert PU College, Mangalore. While Sahan has bagged fourth rank in CET engineering, Medha is the second rank holder in CET medicine and ISMH branches respectively. What they have planned for their ilk is what set these academic achievers apart.
Sahan, who has set his sights on an IIT seat, and who wrote the JEE (advanced) on Sunday, could well relinquish hisCET engineering seat that his rank would get him in any leading engineering institute in Karnataka.
This would mean that he will not be eligible for the fee reimbursement announced by the state government to top five rank holders in CET engineering and medicine streams for the duration of their course. But Sahan has even this base covered.
He intends to write to state government requesting it to extend this offer to the next higher ranked CET engineering student. The government offer was applicable to five toppers in either stream who undertook their professional education study in any technical/medical institute in Karnataka. "This way, the benefit of a scheme announced by the state government could go to a deserving student and he/she could progress in life," Sahan avers.
Medha who had decided to pursue her MBBS studies in KMC, Mangalore, and thereby will benefit from the government's decision, says she would like to pass on the benefit of fee reimbursement to a deserving student(s) at a later stage in her life. "I will certainly think and act on these lines," the diminutive and soft-spoken Medha says. The Karnataka Examinations Authority will bear the fees of these 10 CET toppers in either stream.
