Delhi Boy Paras Sharma Tops CBSE Class 12 exams ,99% Marks


PARAS Sharma from Lancer Convent School has added another feather to Delhis cap by scoring the highest marks in the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE) results announced on Monday. With 99 per cent each, Paras and Sopan Khosla from DPS, Jabalpur, are the all- India toppers in Class XII exams.


The national Capitals feat, however, doesnt end with the highest score. As many as 10,000 students in Delhi have scored over 90 per cent in the CBSE results. At the national level, there as 44,676 students in the 90- plus club this year.

Over 82 per cent of the total 9.2 lakh students have passed the exam this year with girls once again outshining the boys in pass percentage.

The overall pass percentage of girls is 87.98 as compared to 77.78 per cent boys successfully leaving school this year. The corresponding figures in Delhi region are 91.42 per cent and 82.44 per cent respectively.


Paras, a commerce student, has scored a perfect 100 in four subjects – economics, mathematics, business studies and accountancy – and 95 in English.

Science student Khosla has achieved a similar feat with 100 marks each in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science and 95 in English.

Girls march ahead

With 98 per cent marks, Sagarika Mukesh Jaiswal is the top scorer in Gurgaon. A student of Delhi Public School, Sector 45, Sagarika scored perfect 100 in economics and 99, 97, 99, 95 in mathematics, physics, chemistry and English respectively.

“ The overall pass percentage this year has gone up by nearly two per cent from 80.19 last year.

Girls have performed better than boys and Chennai region has got the highest pass percentage of 91.83 followed by Delhi,” said Rama Sharma, spokesperson, CBSE. The pass percentage of Delhi region this year is 86.78, which is slightly better than 85.4 per cent in 2012. The performance of Delhi government schools has also improved with their pass percentage going up by 0.93 from 87.72 per cent in 2012 to 88.65 per cent this year.

“ Performance of government schools of Delhi is once again the best among all state government schools in the country. This time, 109 schools have achieved 100 per cent result against 78 last year,” said Delhi Minister of Education Kiran Walia.

Delhi government schools are followed by government schools in Panchkula region with a pass percentage of 85.32. The pass percentage of private unaided schools in Delhi is 91.83 compared to 90 per cent last year.

Sonali Gupta from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan is topper in the special category with 96.6 per cent. Mehak Sharma from Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan is the topper in this category in Delhi region.

Chennai region has secured the highest pass percentage with 91.83 followed by Delhi region with 86.78

Sharma, ( 18), has not been able to catch his breath since Monday morning.

Even before he could take in the significance of his result, he found himself being surrounded by mediapersons.

“ Theres no substitute for hard work and one should always have a positive attitude towards life,” said Sharma, who believes competition breeds negativity.

He wants to pursue economic ( Honours) and then move onto masters in the same subject. He wants to contribute towards the economy and turn it around in such a way that it eradicates poverty and illiteracy.
