LG D820 Is not a NEXUS 5

When the LG D820 passed through the FCC last week, we were certain the device would turn out to be the long-rumored Nexus 5. Not only did the specs match the rumors, but there was a rear shell for the device pictured in the FCC filing that matched leaked photos of a mystery Nexus that came from a now pulled promotional video out of Google

. Despite all of this, evleaks says the D820 is not the next Nexus.

Last night, evleaks took to his Twitter to bring us the disappointing news:

With the amount of evidence we have in front of us, we’d say there must be some kind of mistake on evleaks’ end. But rarely has he been wrong. With a long standing track record of the most detailed, accurate leaks in the industry, we’re left trying to figure out exactly what’s going on. Evleaks could be totally right, and the mistake could be on the FCC’s end, but that’s highly unlikely.

To add to the confusion, right after tweeting that the D820 is not the next Nexus and is instead a CDMA LG G2 variant, a spec sheet for the D821 was posted by evleaks that appears to detail a CDMA variant of the LG G2. Evleaks could be assuming that the 820 and 821 are so similar in model names that they must be the same device, but we don’t know for sure. We’ve reached out for some clarification, but have yet to hear back.

Despite what evleaks says, we think there’s still a good chance the LG D820 is the Nexus 5. The 821 has different dimensions than the 820, and the pictures of the 820′s rear cover match the leaked mystery Nexus, not the LG G2. At this point all we can do is wait until something official hits the wire. Until then, we’ll keep investigating. Come on Google, announce this thing and get it over with already!
