Gujarat students have created a histroy. A record 502 students from Gujarat have qualified for admission in the IITs, according to the final result of the Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) (Advanced) exam 2013 declared. This is the highest number of students from the state to qualify for admissions in IIT and other prestigious engineering institutes across the country.
Nearly 12,000 students from Gujarat had appeared for the exams. State education department officials said that not only have the state students cleared the JEE advanced exam, a big number of them have also found a place in the top ranks.
"Sixty nine students from Gujarat have ranked in the top 1,000 scorers while 41 students have ranked between 1,000 and 2,000 in the JEE (Advanced) result. This is a very good performance by the students of the state", said state education department officials.
Officials said that the better performance of the students can be attributed to the semester system introduced in HSC science in the state as well as overhauling of the state board syllabus which is now on par with the Central board syllabus.
