Thousands of students who qualified JEE - mains will not appear for the JEE (Advanced), a gateway for admissions in coveted IITs, scheduled on June 2. According to figures given by JEE, over 25,000 eligible JEE - mains candidates will miss the JEE (Advanced).
Experts cite change in the pattern as the biggest reason for the loss of candidates. This year, candidates who cleared JEE - mains which is for the admissions in NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTI) were supposed to register online in order to appear for the next level which is the JEE Advanced. Confusion in the second registration in a big way resulted in candidates who will not be able to write the JEE advanced test,'' said Aditya Kumar, an expert.
Besides, many candidates who scored better marks in admission test of many private universities also decided to do away with JEE Advanced. High score in other entrance exams is also reason. Candidates with low cut off range in JEE - Mains felt that they do not stand a chance to crack JEE advanced also must have avoided to register,'' said a teacher. Some of the candidates who were not sure of getting good marks in Class XII also might have decided to skip the advance test, believe experts.
JEE officials, however, said that the candidates were given enough time to register online. Proper instructions were given on the website,'' said an official.
